World Championships Banquet

Bronze medal match

I won the bronze medal by winning the first round 1-0 and second 1-0. I kept my wrestling simple and very discipline which result in my bronze success.

Match three (CAN vs Romania)

To make it to the medal match I had to defeat Diana Elena Mudrag of Romania. I won 7-0 first round and 1-0 the second round

Match two (CAN vs Bulgaria)

Next I had Stanka Zlateva of Bulgaria (3 times World Champion now and 2nd 2008 Olympics)… A rematch of the Olympics first match… Well this time our match was a lot better… I lost 1-0 the first round and 1-0 the second round… Since she continued to the finals that pulled me back into the tournament…

Match one (CAN vs Ukraine)

First round of the tournament I wrestled Svitlana Sayenko of Ukraine (she place 4th 2004 Olympics)… I won the match 1- 0 first round and 1-0 second round.

I had the honor to be a recipient of the Ghanaian Canadian Women's Courage Awards. This award honors Ghanaian Canadian Women who contribute positively to Society and humanity, thus making the world a better place.

I am receiving my award for Kirsty Duncan(Liberal Candidate for the Etobicoke North riding)

All the other recipient of the Ghanaian Canadian Women's Courage Awards.

I had the great honor of meeting an inspiring woman by the name Kirsty Duncan... She was a Canadian Women of great Courage herself...

I Woke up August 17, with the best intention in mind, to perform my personal best. I had the World Champion as my first match but what can you do about that. That was the luck of the draw. I went into that match ready to give her my best. At the end of the first round I tried a risky move to try to score a point that cost me the first round. In wrestling you win a match with the best out of three two minute rounds so it was not over. The match came to an end in the second round when I got caught in the fireman throw. This was disappointing but the quest for a medal was not over yet. The way the wrestling draw works is the following… All the people who were defeated by the person in the gold medal match get to wrestle off for the bronze medal. After that you get ranked by points. Since the Bulgarian girl was in the finals I was back in the tournament. I had to win against Spain and than I would have been in the bronze medal match…. The match went to three rounds and I lost a close match to Spain. That lost took me out of the running for a medal.
This has been a crazy but rewarding experience… Any given day anything can happen but some days are just not your best days…
I am happy to be at the Olympics and these experiences can only make me a better person and a better athlete…
Now that the work it done… It is time to have fun…

This is my wrestling big brother Daniel Igali. If you don’t know who he is than you should be ashamed of yourself. He is only... the first gold medal for Canada wrestling at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

This is the Ghana Olympic team. I took this picture with the entire team while we (The Canadian team) were waiting to be call into the Bird Nest Stadium. It was amazing that Ghana (my parent’s birth country) was walking into the Opening Ceremonies right before Canada. My two worlds were together. How incredible.

Just to let you know the Opening Ceremonies you are watching on T.V, our two mins of fame take about 5 hours of walking and waiting around to make it all happen. With that said… It is one of the greatest moments of my life. It was so amazing to be apart of history and getting the opportunity to celebrate the 2008 Olympics Games with the world… What a great experience and I was soaking it all up… This picture is of the woman’s wrestling team getting ready to leave the village for the opening ceremonies… All dress up in our gear…

Welcome To Beijing

After 13 hours of flying we got to Beijing and after meeting our Canadian Athletes we were all off to the Village. The woman’s wrestling team was all together again. Next on the list, we got our rooms went for dinner in the village. Next day we got our Olympic Clothing by HBC… It was like Christmas in August. This is a picture after we got our clothing, got sized up and was really happy to look like all the other Canadian in the village. In the Olympic Village your clothing is what show off what country you are representing. Now that I am equipped with my uniform and my place of rest lets get ready for the Opening…

Going to the Olympic

It is here, it is happening… I am actually getting on the plane to go to Beijing to represent my country at the Olympic Games… Wow… You can not imagine how I feel… I am at the airport with my favorite ladies, my older sister(Obenewa) and my very cute niece (Jayla). My niece has Olympic fever, she is outfitted in the very nice HBC clothing…

Home Depot Farewell

My Home Depot Family surprised me last week with the greatest Olympic Send Off...
I made plans to go in the say good bye to my coworkers and customers that knew about my Olympic achievement... Well to my surprise my coworkers had created a stage for me, had all canadian music going. It was a party. They were wearing my Olympic clothing and came to send me off in style.
